About

Earlier this year, Courtney Brousseau, a former Civic Digital Fellow (and twitter employee for those who may have seen the headlines) tragically lost his life to an act completely random and senseless gun violence. In his honor, this fund has been created which were 10 non-profits that Courtney was donating to monthly at the time of his death. Note: At the time we cannot add San Francisco Bike Coalition because they are a 501(c)(4) - as opposed to a 501(c)(3).

Coalition for the Homeless, Inc.

The Coalition for the Homeless is the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping individuals and families. We believe that affordable housing, sufficient food, and the chance to work for a living wage are fundamental rights in a civilized society. Since our inception in 1981, the Coalition has worked through litigation, public education, and direct services to ensure that these goals are realized. Every day, the Coalition for the Homeless helps more than 3,500 people who are suffering in extreme poverty, and in its 40-year history, has given more than 1 million people a way off the streets.

We envision a society where reproductive decisions are free from coercion, shame, or state interference, and individuals have autonomy over their bodies and futures. Focusing on Black women and girls in the South, we are dedicated to community education, empowerment, policy advocacy, and mutual aid to ensure access to critical resources.

Homeless Youth Alliance Inc

The Organization's mission is to meet youth experiencing homelessness where they are, see them all as individuals with unique experiences and life stories and help them to build healthier lives. The Organization believes reducing harm is possible through the provision of accessible, respectful non-judgmental relationships, services and accurate up-to-date referrals and information. The Organization strives to empower youth experiencing homelessness to protect themselves, educate each other, reduce harm within the community, and when they are ready and have the opportunity to transition off the street.
