On December 30th, 2021 the most destructive wildfire in the state's history, the Marshall fire, destroyed nearly 1,000 homes in Boulder County. As Boulder County’s trusted philanthropic partner for over 30 years, Community Foundation Boulder County will work closely with our government and nonprofit partners to coordinate, align resources and fill gaps to support those most impacted by the wildfires. Our experience has shown us the importance of deep local relationships in meeting short- and long-term community needs in a crisis with equity, transparency, and integrity.

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake caused extensive damage in Haiti, especially in the southern region, while the effects of the deadly 2010 earthquake is still be felt. The buildings are badly damaged and more than 2,000 people have been killed. Your donation will go to an approved non-profit organization that provides emergency relief, water, food, medicine, and shelter in Haiti. The earthquake caused considerable damage and invaded hospitals. Funding locally managed non-profit organizations that can provide emergency relief and long-term recovery to meet the needs of the community is critical. All donations to this fund will support Haiti earthquake relief and recovery efforts. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet the immediate needs of survivors for food, fuel, clean water, medicine and shelter. As needed, we will support longer term recovery efforts led by approved local organizations in the affected area.

Ida is the sixth-costliest tropical cyclone on record, having caused at least $50 billion in damages. This campaign is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing disaster response in the region. Through a single tax deductible donation to the fund, you can support multiple organizations’ initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts, and medical assistance. The 2021 wildfire season is shaping up to be another terrible one in California and the Western United States. In California, three of the 2021 fires (Dixie, Caldor, and Monument) are already on Cal Fire’s top 20 largest California Wildfires list since 1932 (by acreage burned), with five of the top 7 largest fires claimed by 2020 fires. Startling images of the Dixie Fire’s total destruction of the entire town of Greenville or of firefighters riding ski chairlifts to prevent the Caldor Fire from cresting the ridge at Kirkwood Mountain Resort put these statistics into sharp focus. The organizations in this fund were researched and chosen to provide boots-on-the-ground support during and in the aftermath of wildfires to meet the short, medium, and long-term needs of impacted people.

On Saturday, August 14, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck the southwestern part of Haiti. Bright Funds has established the 2021 Haiti Earthquake Disaster Response and Recovery Fund. An oil tanker explosion killed 22 people in the impoverished northern Lebanese governorate of Akkar, the Lebanese Red Cross said. The organisation said 79 people were injured in the incident. More people are feared dead. The explosion happened at a time of widespread fuel shortages, when much of the country is without electricity and long queues form at petrol stations. Fund will support disaster relief to the families - specifically burn victims that are in need of medical supplies, protective gear and pain killers. Ahla Fawda are already donating to the main 2 hospitals - Geitawii & Salam that are treating the injured.

Donations desperately needed! On Saturday 14th August 2021, an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude stuck Haiti. This is while the country is still rebuilding from the 2010 earthquake of 7.0 magnitude that is believed to have taken the lives of 200,000 people. This fund is comprised of funds that will benefit those in Haiti who have been displaced and help the country rebuild.

Help TOG for their reforestation efforts in Southern Turkey. On July 27th 2021, forest fires started in the Southern region of Turkey, causing many casualties while creating a massively destructive damage on wildlife. Currently there are around 60 fires still uncontrolled in the region and the total damage is expected to be catastrophic. With this fundraising activity we are aiming to help Toplum Gonulluleri Vakfi (TOG) in their effort to help reforestation in the region. All proceeds will be used for reforestation efforts of TOG.

The incessant rains in Maharashtra in second half of July'21 have wrecked havoc. Widespread floods have been reported across many districts. The worst-hit districts are Kolhapur, Raigad, Sangli, Ratnagiri, Satara and Sindhudurg, hitting a total of 890 villages. Basic infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and electricity was disrupted in several areas. Over a lakh people have been displaced and are without proper shelter, food and medical help.

A major storm system stalled over Western Europe on July 14-15, leading to record-setting rain over Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands. Some parts of Germany received two months of rain in 24-48 hours, leading to rivers overtopping their banks, flash flooding through communities, and hundreds of people injured, missing or dead. The Ahr, Volme and Dussel rivers all overtopped their banks with record-setting water levels, which led to evacuation orders and emergency declarations in multiple cities. As the water continued to flow downstream, it filled dams past their capacity, leading to more evacuations as infrastructure was stretched – sometimes beyond its breaking limit. There has been extensive damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure in the worst natural disaster the region has faced in more than half a century.

The rain began over the weekend, with storms intensifying on Tuesday. By Tuesday night, Zhengzhou and other places in Henan province saw widespread flooding. There were reports online of people swept away by fast-moving floodwaters, and cars and debris drifting down submerged streets. Several dams and reservoirs have breached warning levels, and soldiers have been mobilised to divert rivers which have burst their banks. Flights and train operations in many parts of Henan have also been suspended. They were reportedly provided food at first but this is now said to be in low supply. The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou Hospital also briefly lost power on Tuesday night, though this has now been restored, said a statement on Weibo by the Zhengzhou Municipal Party Committee. It added that 600 critically ill patients had been transferred to another location. A 20-metre (65ft) breach has emerged in the dam in Luoyang city after it was damaged by storms, officials said. Soldiers have been deployed to the area and a statement from the army warned it could "collapse at any time". In Zhengzhou, unverified video footage showed passengers in flooded subway carriages with water reaching their shoulders.
